Training on the job

When know-how risks being lost

In many manufacturing companies, a increasingly widespread phenomenon is occurring: generational turnover is progressively reducing the wealth of technical knowledge built over the years. This also happens in polishing and surface finishing processes, where practical experience, operational sensitivity, and knowledge of machining parameters represent fundamental elements for achieving consistent, high-quality results.

When the skills developed by the most experienced operators are not transferred in a structured way, the risk is a progressive loss of process control. The consequences can manifest as non-homogeneous finishing, aesthetic differences between products, incorrectly processed areas, or difficulties in maintaining the quality standards that have made a brand recognizable over time.

Often the cause does not lie within the machine itself, but in the configuration of the process: non-optimal choice of consumables, incorrect working parameters, inadequate contact times, or imprecise positioning of the operating units can significantly influence the final result.

To address this need, SILLEM has developed training courses dedicated to operators and production managers, with the aim of transferring the technical skills and operational methodologies necessary to independently manage the polishing process.

The training programs can cover topics such as:

  • Fundamental principles of industrial polishing;
  • Identification and selection of consumables;
  • Machine configuration and programming;
  • Management of contact times and working pressures;
  • Optimization of the finishing process;
  • Analysis and troubleshooting of the most common issues.

Each course is developed based on the specific production requirements of the customer and can include both theoretical sessions and practical activities directly on the systems.

The goal is not simply to teach how to use a machine, but to transfer applied know-how that allows for the preservation of quality, production continuity, and corporate skills over time.

Because a good finishing is the result of technology. A consistent finishing is the result of knowledge.
